At the hub of France's 3rd leading industrial department, Bourg-en-Bresse is France's leading centre for trucks and the second European leader in industrial bodywork, with over 4,200 companies in the catchment area. The figures speak for themselves!
Allure regained
Bolstered by a shared goal with its local community, Bourg-en-Bresse is the centre of a catchment area with 120,000 inhabitants. Based in a department in the throes of a demographic boom, the population is made up of young, working graduates driven by the countless real estate and economic projects in the offing. The expansion of the campus is also a challenge for the future!
Priority to employment
With a very low rate of unemployment (5.4 % for the whole catchment area), Bourg pools over 30,000 jobs in services, shops, administrations, industries and the hospital sector. In synergy with its conurbation, the city pools forces to enhance the allure of the region, broaden the outreach of its companies and favour integration across the board.
Ranking
Classed the 4th most attractive conurbation in France (2005 league table in monthly magazine "L'entreprise"), Bourg takes pole position when it comes to buying power in the Rhône-Alpes region ("Nouvel Objectif Rhône-Alpes", January-March 2007). These achievements reflect an outstanding quality of life!
Centres of excellence
The "mechanics, industrial bodywork and metallurgy" sector is the historical flagship of the Bourg catchment area, which is home to 80 companies and 4,500 employees. The sector's growth drivers include Renault Trucks and Trouillet for bodywork, and Nexans and Tréfileurope (Mittal Steel group) for cables and wire drawing. Another centre of excellence is the agri-food industry which formed in the Bresse area to encompass research, teaching and technology. With over 6,000 jobs in Ain, this sector is endowed with an industrial engineering science park, Alimentec. Many SME-SMIs enable this tradition to transcend departmental borders, including Les Quenelles Giraudet, La Laiterie de Bresse, Les biscuits Bouvard and Bresse Bleu.
